The Cell Biology On-line Lab Manual
- Steve Gallik (Biology, UMW)
- Co-Presenter: Andy Rush
The laboratory component of the cell biology course at UMW employs laboratory experiments that require students to collect, record, numerically analyze and graph significant amounts of data. Generating a complete record of the experiment can leave a student with no time to think and generate thoughtful conclusions about the meaning of the experimental results. An on-line laboratory manual has been created to provide cell biology students with a database-driven way to collect, record, analyze and graph their data in a fraction of the time it would otherwise take, thus giving students the time required to think about the meaning of the results. But that is only the beginning to this story. The real power of the manual is what comes next. This presentation will demonstrate how the manual works and will finish the story of how this manual will transform the way students work with data in the cell biology teaching lab at UMW.
