From Faculty Academy 2007 Wiki
Course management systems such as Blackboard are essentially locked-down content transmission systems in which opportunities for meaningful student interaction, collaboration, and open-web publication are either minimal or nonexistent. By contrast, open-web tools such as blogs, wikis, photo galleries, and online video sites encourage students to think and create together outside the traditional course containers. In this presentation, an Economics professor, an English professor, and the instructional technology strategists who supported them and their classes talk about their innovations in recent courses, report on the lessons they've learned, and share their plans for building on their efforts in future courses.
