Planning to Share: Distributed File Sharing for Preservation Planning

  • Gillian Bearns (Historic Preservation, UMW)

This project required developing a mechanism for sharing files amongst the students enrolled in the course, the instructor, and our clients, the staff of the Department of Planning & Community Development of the Town of Warrenton, VA. We used an open source content management system called Drupal externally hosted on the Department of Historic Preservation's Bluehost account. This allowed us to share and develop files as a class and exchange files with the Warrenton staff throughout the semester. One of our final products included a website developed directly from the materials we created and shared throughout the semester using the same content management system. That website will become a public resource for residents of the Town of Warrenton.
