Alan Levine, The New Media Consortium
In 2006, the University of Mary Washington joined the New Media Consortium-- and actually so did I! After working 14 years in instructional technology for an NMC member, the Maricopa Community Colleges, I joined the NMC staff. Speaking from both experiences, in this session, I aim to show the resources and opportunities available to UMW staff and faculty.
This is a web wiki buffet. I'll be moving through the line in this order, but feel free to grab a plate and pick something that looks appetizing, the chef will not be insulted.
- NMC Web 2.0 - served ~3:00 - 3:20 PM Our newly launched web site (as of April 2007) inspired by user generated content, social presence, folksonomy...
- NMC Conferences - served ~3:20 - 3:30 PM a sampling of the types of online, face to face, and virtual events UMW faculty and staff can choose to attend
- Second Life - served ~3:30 - 4;00 PM resources and opportunities available to members on our NMC Campus in Second Life. Live tour! including a demonstration of the new voice capability on the beta grid.
- Pachyderm served ~4:00 - 4:15 PM Open Source software developed out of partnership with museum and education members that provides an authoring environment for creators of web-based learning experiences for users with deep content expertise, but few technical skills.
