From Scientific Posters to the Ms. Magazine Project: Presenting Research Online in Psycholinguistics and Women's Studies

  • Judith Parker (English, Linguistics, and Speech, UMW)
  • Co-Presenter: Jim Groom

This session will be an overview and conversation about the conceptualization, enactment and benefits of the first iteration of new projects in two very different courses. For an assignment involving interactive scientific posters in Introduction to Psycholinguistics, topics include posterboard vs. virtual gallery, visual presentation, and students' perspectives on their relationship with the world beyond our classroom. For the Ms. Magazine Project in Introduction to Women's Studies, a collaboration among students, a reference librarian, an instructional technology specialist and a professor opened an assignment that explored the nature of research for and in the virtual world, and the challenges and benefits to all of us.
