MashUp #1 - A Podcast Tool MashUp - Or, More Small Pieces Loosely Joined
OK, so you may know already that del.icio.us is used to bookmark sites and then makes them available wherever you go. What you may not know is that del.icio.us can bookmark more than just html pages. It can also bookmark media files.
Take a look at some examples:
http://del.icio.us/tag/system:filetype:mov
http://del.icio.us/tag/system:filetype:jpg
Also notice a bonus feature of using del.icio.us with MP3 files.
http://del.icio.us/tag/system:filetype:mp3
You need a few ingredients:
- Firefox
- Greasemonkey
- The del.icio.us MP3 script
- A del.icio.us account (to collect MP3s)
- iTunes or other podcatcher
- Portable MP3 player (optional)
The basic procedure is when you stumble across an MP3 file on a web page, you click the play button to preview it, then if you like it you immediately tag it in del.icio.us with "tolisten". You will also get the RSS feed for your del.icio.us MP3 collection and import it into iTunes or another podcatcher.
Check out my screencast on gathering loose MP3's from the web.
MashUp #2 - OK, it's not a true MashUp, but it's REALLY COOL!
You need a few ingredients:
What Can It Do?
- Keep your bookmarks in Firefox AND del.icio.us
- Replace your Bookmarks toolbar (no longer needed)
- Instantly view your most visited bookmarks
- Instantly view your recently bookmarked pages
- Easily access great del.icio.us features like "tag bundles"
Remember, you don't have to share all of your del.icio.us bookmarks, just the ones you want to.
