From Student - teacher to Apprentice-Master?! Wow! This is such an inspiring example to students.
Angela is right, submit them to real conference.

I want to take some time to reflect on this post--

One way might be to require students to submit abstracts to real conferences? Particularly if there's a conference within a reasonable traveling distance.

Martha,

Thanks for sharing such an eloquent summary of your experience in returning to Mary Washington. I returned to Hamilton College to work 10 years after graduation, and stayed for the next 14. Every day, I experienced the conflicts that you've captured so vividly in your post:

Coming back to work at the place where you studied–the place where you came into yourself–is both a blessing and curse...I felt like I was walking through a ghosttown. Everywhere I went, this campus haunted me. I remembered a thousand moments of discovery, love, pain, and euphoria, each linked to a different building, green lawn, classroom, office.

You're clearly doing your part to make UMW a "real school" in the truest sense of the word. Congratulations!
